The Faringdon band rang 1260 changes of Grandsire Triples at All Saints Church.

Hinton Waldrist was the last church in the Vale to ring a quarter on 11 May. The band rang 1260 changes of Grandsire Doubles at St Margaret of Antioch Church.
As well as celebrating the centenary, this quarter peal was rung to honour Den Leslie, tower captain for 56 years until his death in January.

The Shellingford band rang 1260 changes of Plain Bob Doubles. It was a first quarter for Becky Vardy (centre front).

The Buscot band rang 1260 changes of Minimus (12 methods) at St Mary’s Church.

The Lyford band rang 1260 Original Singles at St Mary’s Church.

This, I am told, is properly called a fid: a word which I had not heard before – I’ve always just called it a spike. Apparently, it’s not a proper marlinspike, because a marlinspike is made from metal (for working wire rope). Instead, this was carved from a short length of a trimmed yew branch.

Another eighteen inches or so of the same branch went to make a trowel handle a couple of years ago; and there’s another four feet or so waiting to be shaped as a walking staff.
